Just like the ever-changing weather outside, our inner world shifts constantly. Sometimes it feels like a storm of overwhelming emotions, or perhaps a heavy fog of confusion. And at other times, we may find moments of calm and clarity. No matter the intensity, these moments are all part of the natural ebb and flow of our inner landscape.
In this beautiful work by Hashimoto Gahō, Mountain Landscape, we are reminded that in nature, the mountains remain steadfast, holding space for both the tempest and the stillness. Similarly, we too can find moments of steadiness within ourselves, even in the most turbulent times.
Distress, sadness, or confusion can be incredibly overwhelming, but they are not permanent. In therapy, we create a gentle space to explore these shifting weather patterns together — to witness it without judgment, and navigate through it with curiosity and compassion.
Whatever you're experiencing right now, it’s okay to feel. Sometimes, it can help to acknowledge what’s present by asking, ‘how is the weather inside me?’ This simple question reminds us that we are the witness, not the weather. A recognition of the impermanent nature of our feelings and thoughts, might clear the clouds a little, and reveal change is on the horizon.
